Please join CFABJ in welcoming the Bethune-Cookman University Student NABJ Chapter at the CFABJ meeting at 7 p.m.Thursday, Sept. 18, at Bethune’s Center for Civic Engagement, 740 W. International Speedway, Daytona Beach, FL.

Directions: From Orlando, take Interstate 4 east toward Daytona Beach. Take the Jacksonville exit onto Interstate 95. Take exit 261 toward Deland/Daytona Beach onto International Speedway. The Center for Civic Engagement will be on the left of Speedway.

Food will be served. Please plan to attend and extend congratulations to Bethune’s student chapter as it comes into the NABJ family!

CFABJ member completes internship at Orlando Sentinel

CFABJ member Nicole Blake, who also is president of the National Association of Black Journalists chapter at University of Central Florida, completed her internship on the business desk at the Orlando Sentinel on Aug. 8.

On her last day, the business desk feted Nicole for all her hard work. Congratulations and good luck, Nicole!

The Orlando Sentinel has won an award from the Society for News Design‘s Best of Multimedia Design competition for an interactive graphic project completed by CFABJ member Tory Hargro and another multimedia artist.

UNITY attendance trending below expectations

Four years ago, UNITY organizers dared to dream they might have 10,000 registrants at the 2008 conference.

But as the conference grows closer, their dreams have been dashed by the side effects of industry turmoil and layoffs. As of 4 p.m. Friday, only 4,314 people had registered for the conference.

The conference meets July 23 to July 27 in Chicago. Are you planning to go? Meet up with CFABJers as well as local members of NAHJ and AAJA who also will be attending the conference at our July 17 pre-UNITY event.
